Register for 15th Annual McCollough Medical Scholars Forum

Dear Pre-Health Students,

You are cordially invited to the 15th Annual McCollough Medical Scholars Forum on February 10-11, 2017 in the Shelby Hall rotunda at The University of Alabama.

The McCollough Medical Scholars Forum, sponsored by UA’s College of Arts and Sciences, was established by Alabama physician Dr. Gaylon McCollough and his wife, Susan, who are both UA alumni. The Forum’s aim is to emphasize the importance of liberal arts education in the study and practice of medicine. Students have an opportunity to engage in conversation with our guest speakers, invited health care professionals, and faculty members, and other guests of the College, regarding humanistic and social issues in medicine.

Over the years the Forum has established a strong reputation of providing opportunities for connection and conversation between future doctors, current medical students, current practitioners, and the healthcare community. Upon hearing about the forum’s lasting impact on medicine, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama graciously offered to co-sponsor our forum this year.

Our speakers for this special event are Dr. Steve Lovelady, owner and partner of Northriver Primary Care Associates; Andrew Malahowski, area senior vice president and compliance council for Gallagher Benefit Services’ South Central Region; and Dr. Darrel Weaver, vice president of healthcare network services and medical director for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama. Weaver will present our opening lecture on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m., followed by dinner with our students at 5:45 p.m. in the Shelby Hall rotunda. The forum will continue on Saturday morning beginning at 9 a.m. with lectures by Malahowski and Lovelady and discussion by Dr. McCollough.

In addition, events during the forum include

  • 3rd and 4th year medical student panel discussion
  • Medical Readers Theater presentation
  • Meaningful discussions with community healthcare providers and stakeholders
  • and more!

This event is free to all participants and all meals will be provided during the event. You can register for this event by filling out the form below.
